Free LinkedIn Banner Maker - 1584×396
Pick a template, type your headline, and see the banner on a profile before you download it. Built at the size LinkedIn's help center lists, in this tab, with nothing uploaded.
On LinkedIn your profile photo covers the lower left, so left-aligned text can be hidden.
Local onlyEverything on this page - the preview, the randomness, and every file you download - is generated by JavaScript in this tab. Nothing you type, pick, or upload is transmitted, and the page keeps working offline.
LinkedIn now calls this your profile's cover image (it used to be the background photo): the wide image behind your profile picture. LinkedIn's help center lists 1584×396 pixels as the recommended size, a 4:1 ratio, as a JPG or PNG under 8 MB. This maker builds to exactly that size and shows the result on a desktop and a phone profile layout, so you can see what your photo will cover before you upload anything.
On a desktop profile the round profile photo sits over the lower left of the banner. The templates put text on the right for that reason, and the dashed guide on the preview marks the area to keep clear. LinkedIn does not publish an exact crop or safe area and notes that the image can shift with screen size, so treat the guide as a close approximation rather than a promise.
How this is different from a design app
General design apps can make a LinkedIn banner too. This page does one job and keeps it simple:
- Nothing leaves your computer. The banner is drawn on a canvas in this tab. Your text, your photo and your downloads are never uploaded, so there is no account, no project saved on someone else's server, and nothing to delete later.
- No signup, no watermark, no paid tier. Every template, font and export is free, and the file you download is exactly the file you see.
- It shows the LinkedIn problem before you hit it. The profile preview and the photo guide show what your profile picture covers, instead of finding out after you upload.
- One design, three sizes. The same banner exports as a 1500×500 X header and a 1200×630 link preview image, re-laid out for each shape rather than cropped.
- A link that rebuilds it. Share copies a link with every setting in it, so you can reopen or hand off the design without a file or an account.
Questions this tool gets asked
What size should a LinkedIn banner be?
1584×396 pixels, a 4:1 ratio. That figure comes from LinkedIn's own help center article on changing your profile background photo. Files need to be JPG or PNG and under 8 MB. This page shows the size of every download against that limit.
Will my profile picture cover part of the banner?
Yes. On a desktop profile the round photo overlaps the lower left of the banner, and on the phone app it sits over the left side. The templates keep text on the right, and the dashed profile photo guide marks the area to keep clear. LinkedIn does not publish an exact safe area, so the guide is an approximation.
How do I upload my new banner to LinkedIn?
Open your profile, click the camera or pencil icon on your current background photo, and upload the PNG or JPG this page downloads. LinkedIn handles the upload; this page only builds the file.
Can I use my own photo as the background?
Yes. Choose Photo as the background and pick an image. It is read into memory in this tab and never uploaded, and you can darken or blur it so your text stays readable.
Is this the same size as a LinkedIn Company Page cover photo?
No. This page builds the personal profile background photo at 1584×396. Company Page covers use a different upload size; check LinkedIn's current help documentation before reusing a personal-profile file there.
Is this LinkedIn banner maker free?
Yes. Free, no watermark, no signup, no image limit. The page is supported by ads. The banner is drawn in your own browser, so making a thousand costs us the same as making one.
Does anything I type or upload leave my computer?
No. Text, colors, any photo and the QR code are drawn on a canvas in this tab and downloaded straight to your machine. The share link carries your settings, but never your photo.
Method
- Algorithm
- Canvas 2D drawing in its own engine,
linkedin-banner.js. Eight backgrounds inpaintBg(): layered sine waves over a three-stop linear gradient, an aurora of stacked radial gradients, blurred blobs, a gradient with a radial glow, film grain, ruled editorial paper, a solid fill with one glow, or your own photo scaled to cover with darken and blur.paint()lays text out against a right, center, split or left anchor, auto-shrinks the headline until it fits two lines, colors an optional highlight phrase, and draws the badge, skill chips, email and website icons, and a QR code (qrcode-generator by Kazuhiko Arase, MIT, bundled on this site) that points at the website you enter. - Determinism
- Text, layout and the flat, gradient and paper backgrounds are pure functions of the controls. The wave phase, aurora glow positions, blob shapes and grain come from
mulberry32(seed), so the same seed and controls reproduce the same banner. A photo background depends on the photo you pick, which is read into memory and never stored in the share link. - Export
- PNG or JPG (quality 0.92) at exactly 1584x396, the size LinkedIn's help center lists for a profile background photo; the file size is shown against LinkedIn's 8 MB limit. The same design also exports as a 1500x500 X header and a 1200x630 OG image, re-laid out for those shapes rather than cropped. Fonts are loaded with
document.fonts.load()before drawing, so downloads use the typeface shown in the preview. - Licence
- Output is the user's to use for anything, including commercial work, with no attribution required.
